MediaTek Unveils First Dual-Mode SoC with NB-IoT and Cellular Connectivity

first_imgMediaTek has unveiled the industry’s first dual-mode SoC designed for IoT applications with both NB-IoT Release 14 and GSM/GPRS connectivity. The new, high power MT2621 chipset, brings dual-mode cellular technologies for IoT, with low power consumption. It supports the developments of a broad range of connected devices including fitness trackers and other wearables, IoT security sensors, smart meters and various industrial applications. The MT2621 chipset features a highly integrated design with a complete connectivity platform that allows it to work with current GSM/GPRS as well as NB-IoT networks for excellent IoT coverage and phone call capability. The advanced connectivity features built into the chipset meet the needs of cellular network infrastructure both GSM and future NB-IoT, which are set to fuel the next chapter of growth for the IoT market. The MT2621 requires only a single SIM and antenna to cover both cellular networks, with dual standby functionality (SSDS). This allows a single UICC and mobile number for both networks, even while operating simultaneously, resulting in a cost-efficient, simplified design that enables manufacturers to bring their devices to market faster. The chipset integrates a wideband front-end module that provides support for all ultra-low, low and mid bands across the globe. At its core, the chipset is powered by an efficient ARMv7 MCU paired with internal Flash and PSRAM. LCM, camera and audio AMP interfaces give additional support for sight and sound peripherals, and comes with built-in Bluetooth 4.2 for connecting to other devices nearby.Click here to learn more about this product.last_img read more

Abductors of Chelsea star Mikel’s father contact family

first_imgAbductors of the father of Chelsea’s Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi have made contact with his family.Michael Obi, who runs a transport firm in Jos, has not been seen since Friday. But, on Tuesday, Obi’s family had two calls from the abductors, who firstly told them that Michael had been moved out of Jos to commercial capital Lagos. With the abductors – who refused to say who they are or what their intent is – yet to make any demand, the family met police after this latest development. In a second call a few hours later on Tuesday, the abductors gave the family the location of the car which Michael Obi was driving when he went missing. The car was then found in Jos, but the Obi family refused to say where exactly it was recovered. “Yes, they found his car and spoke with them which is a positive step forward,” Babawo Muhamed, a close friend of the Chelsea player, told BBC Sport. “Hopefully, they will be in touch again. Mikel has been greatly affected by this. But he is holding on.”The latest development is likely to come as a relief for the concerned Obi, whose family held a prayer vigil at the family compound on Monday.Police declined to issue a statement on the latest development.Obi was told of his father’s abduction before Sunday’s goalless Premier League draw between Chelsea and Stoke City, but decided to play.“I’ve always tried to help the country, this is the time for the country to help me,” Mikel said on Monday. “Whoever knows where my dad is should please contact me.”last_img read more

Pickles scores a double

first_imgPSC Golf from Colin’s BarMonday, Sept. 28, Bangpra – Stableford1st Barry Oats (22) 33pts2nd John Pirrel (13) 31pts3rd Colin Davis (19) 30pts Just a small turnout today, two 3-balls, but fortunately the weather was with us although the course still won.  We started on the first hole and had to wait for a group to finish hole 18 before starting the front nine, but after 2 holes they disappeared and we almost ran around the course and we were all back in the locker room within three and a half hours.  But like I said the course was the winner today – maybe we were too quick!Barry Oats, playing from the silver tees, had the best score of the day with 33 points while 2 shots back was John Pirrel in second and a further shot back was Colin (Donkey) Davis to complete the podium.Wednesday, Sept. 30, Khao Kheow A & B – Stableford1st Ian Pickles (17) 38pts2nd Rod Brown (18) 31ptsIt seemed the rain scared everyone away today, but a few brave souls set out for Khao Kheow and when we arrived there were grey skies all around, but thankfully no rain, and through the black clouds the sun shone on our brave golfers.Reborn again Ian (San Miguel) Pickles was as steady as ever with 19 both front & back for a total of 38 points and first place.  In second was Rod Brown seven shots back on 31 points and, sadly for us, his last game in Thailand for the next 2 years. When we got back to Pattaya we knew we had made the right decision to play after hearing about all the rain they had whilst we were away.Friday, Oct. 2, Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford1st Ian Pickles (17) 42pts2nd Vaulton Reece (18) 39pts3rd Alan White (13) 37ptsCrystal Bay today with a 10.00am tee time and a last game for Max Scott, off back to Australia, and Alan (Woodsy) White & Vaulton (Vee) Reece, back to work in Korea, but they’ll be back in a few months. There was a rollover ‘2’s pot so a little more interest on the par-3s.  Star of the day again was that man Ian (San Miguel) Pickles with 42 points, including a missed 6-inch tap in!  He was followed by two of the homeward bound boys, Vee and Woodsy, leaving only the Donkey kicking his heels again.  The ‘2’s pot was split between Woodsy , Bob Watson and Maurice Roberts .last_img read more
