It’s the end of 2015, which means it’s time to look back on the year. I hope you enjoyed what I shared on the blog and that you found the content useful in your work and projects. Southern Boone school district voters said yes to ballot issues in 2016 and 2018 by big margins. They’ve got another one coming up Tuesday, which would mean a 40-cent tax increase per $100 of assessed value.Superintendent Chris Felmlee says he’s seen strong community support for the schools, and he’s not taking it for granted.“They know the situation that we’re in with the explosive growth that we continue to experience,” Supt. Felmlee says. “The fact of the matter is we’re just out of classrooms.”The district is also ending a voluntary 25-cent tax rollback in August.Felmlee says money from this ballot issue would go to a new primary school wing. He says the plan is to also have issues on the ballot in 2021 and 2025 for additions to the middle school and high school, respectively. Those last two would not require a tax increase, just an extension of the debt.“It’s really critical that the Apr. 2 ballot issue pass, because it does set into motion something that will affect every grade for the next five years.”
