first_imgFlashback to September 1996, and Seattle-based superstars Pearl Jam were flying high as the ultimate torch-bearers of grunge rock. The band’s first three albums–Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy–were hugely successful breakthrough records, featuring hit singles as well as classic deep cuts that would come to define the band, cementing them as one of the best musical acts that America had to offer. With the release of their fourth album–No Code–in August of 1996, the band was still riding their wave of success, even amongst constant fighting between the band members.On September 20th, 1996, Pearl Jam stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman in support of No Code. They performed “Hail, Hail”, the rocking lead single from the album, and delivered a truly memorable performance. The band was ferocious, with Eddie Vedder showcasing his immeasurable talent as a singer and frontman, while new drummer Jack Irons pounded away on the drums. Guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard played off each other perfectly, creating one of the best dual-guitar sounds in all of rock. The Lightning Thief Musical to Receive Cast Album

first_img View Comments The stage adaptation of Rick Riordan’s young adult fantasy novel, featuring a book by Joe Tracz and direction by Stephen Brackett, began performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on March 23. The show opened on April 4. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through May 6.  Carrie Compere costars alongside a cast also including George Salazar, Sarah Beth Pfeifer, Jonathan Raviv, Kristin Stokes and James Hayden Rodriguez.Riordan’s bestselling novel The Lightning Thief follows Percy Jackson (McCarrell) on a fantastical journey across the United States in search of Zeus’ lightning bolt. Serbian Railways restructured

first_imgSERBIA: The government formally converted Serbian Railways into a joint stock company 100% owned by the state on May 26. ZS is now a holding company for four subsidiaries which are responsible for infrastructure, property, passenger operations & rolling stock maintenance and freight operations & rolling stock maintenance.Interaction between the subsidiaries and with the government are now based on contracts setting out responsibilities and liabilities, while the state is committed to funding infrastructure maintenance and enhancement and will provide subsidies for specified passenger services. ZS Director General Milovan Markovic said the restructuring ‘according to all European standards’ will not lead to job losses or a decline in working conditions, but should bring ‘many positive effects’ including improved efficiency and service quality and closer alignment with the market. The Bahamas Suspends National Examinations
