The skier was carried from near the top of Left Gully almost to the floor of Tuckerman Ravine at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, the Mount Washington Avalanche Center reported in a Facebook post. A skier survived after getting buried in an avalanche on Mount Washington in New Hampshire, officials said. The pair did not have avalanche beacons, probes or shovels, the center said, which are all recommended for people skiing in the area. The skier was with a companion who could not see his friend so skied away to seek help. Bystanders started digging and were later joined by Hermit Lake and Harvard Cabin caretakers as well as snow rangers. The skier lost his skis and poles and when the flow stopped, found himself face down, but with his head near the surface, the center said. His body was buried about two feet deep and he was unable to move other than to raise his head to breathe. GORHAM, N.H. (AP) — A skier survived after getting buried in an avalanche on Mount Washington in New Hampshire, officials said. Their names were not made public.
On July 19 Amtrak reintroduced the Hoosier State, running three times a week between Chicago and Indianapolis. When combined with the existing Chicago – Washington DC Cardinal the new service doubles the frequency offered by Amtrak between Chicago and Indianapolis; business travellers can now spend a full day in Chicago and head home the same evening.Introduction of the extra trains has been made possible by rapid progress in refurbishing coaches and locomotives at Amtrak’s Beech Grove plant near Indianapolis.A spin-off benefit for Amtrak of running the extra trains is that rolling stock can now be moved between Chicago and Beech Grove on the Hoosier State, avoiding shunting delays to the Cardinal, which had been used previously for positioning stock. o
De’Andre Washingtonby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Wow what a week to pick the first 2017-18 Big Cheese Athlete of the Week. After much deliberation, we have picked De’Andre Washington, a junior receiver/defensive secondary player, for the Crusaders. In Wellington’s 34-6 victory over Clearwater, Washington caught two touchdown passes of 53 and 30 yards in the first half helping the Crusaders take a 20-0. He also accounted for a fumble recovery in the end zone midway in the third quarter which pretty much secured victory for Wellington. For the night, Washington had 120 yard receiving on five catches. It’s been awhile since we had a 100-plus yard receiver. For his efforts, Washington receives a FREE delicious pizza at Big Cheese Pizza on 324 N. Washington.
